A busy Christmas and a happy New Year in the press for PXtech

December is a busy month for everyone – but aside from Christmas and end of year meetings, PXtech was also keeping busy in the press. Managing Director Richard Dorf kicked off proceedings by sharing his predictions for the hospitality sector as we head into 2013, with his article appearing in influential trade title Retail Technology.

Richard explained that whilst the dawn of a new year is an exciting time for any business, it is also important to remember that a fresh start often comes complete with fresh new challenges. He cited efficiency, delivery and strong in-house controls as his tips for success in 2013, and explained how effective EPoS solutions can vastly improve all-important profit margins.

In the article he concluded: “2013 will, without a doubt, pose a number of challenges to the hospitality and foodservice retailing sector – but with the right technology to hand these challenges can be met with efficiency and professionalism, and ultimately help to protect the all-important profit margins which are so integral to overall business success.” You can read the article in full here.

And we’re pleased to say that 2013 got off to a great start for PXtech, with Richard again sharing his knowledge with the hospitality press – this time for the January edition of Bar Magazine. In this article Richard explained how CCTV-linked BI tools can tackle industry fraud in the pub and bar sector – citing access to real-time data as the most effective component when combatting staff fraud and theft.

The online edition of Bar Magazine is available to read here, with Richard’s comments featuring on pages 57-58. Stay tuned for more news on PXtech in the press during 2013!

BBC calls on PXtech for Autumn Statement analysis

When the BBC was looking for insight from a leading business on what George Osbourne’s much-anticipated Autumn Statement really means for UK plc, who did they call on? PXtech of course – and as a successful, innovative UK business trading both at home and abroad, we were ideally placed to offer informed analysis.

With three areas key to a full recovery – competitiveness, capital and confidence – we argued that although the Statement held some positives for business, such as the business bank and more investment in linking with universities, which is so crucial for continued innovation, the Chancellor did not go far enough to get the economy truly kicked started again.

As the BBC says - if only the Chancellor had access to the kind of real-time, business-critical data that we supply for our customers, he would be able to make truly effective decisions and deliver the gamechanger the economy needs!

You can catch the interview on the BBC iPlayer – simply follow this link (clip available until 6.30pm tonight): http://www.bbc.co.uk/i/b01p4h3g/?t=15m26s

PXtech at the Palace

Every once in a while you have a day that you know you’ll never forget – in a good way!  PXtech experienced one of these earlier this week, when we joined fellow Queen’s Award winners for a champagne reception at Buckingham Palace, hosted by HM The Queen.

It’s been quite a year for PXtech, with several international deals secured with globally-renowned companies, and numerous award shortlistings and wins – the most prestigious of which being our Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2012, for International Trade.  And what better way for our 2012 to draw to a close than with an invitation to such an exclusive event?

The relaxed, informal reception saw senior royals mingling with guests in the splendid setting of the ballroom.  We enjoyed a good chat with Prince Philip who was particularly entertaining and clearly up to speed with technology as he talked about the trials and tribulations of downloading to iPads and kindles.

It was very encouraging to see so many technology companies present, demonstrating how prominent a role technology is playing in British business success. It was also great to meet fellow winners from across the East Midlands and share in the achievements of our region’s companies both at home and abroad.

Having spent the event mingling with the great and the good, the quote of the night actually came later that evening from technical director Adrian Howlett who, whilst pondering the menu ahead of what proved to be an interesting meal of vegetarian nouvelle cuisine, commented: “I think I’ll avoid the cheese - I have already had plenty of that at the Palace.… hmm, you don’t get to say that very often.”

Quite.

PXtech’s newest international partner comes to visit…

Following the signing of PXtech’s agreement with international EPOS manufacturer Uniwell, we were very pleased to welcome senior Uniwell management over from Japan, for several days of positive discussions.

The new deal not only sees PXtech distribute Uniwell’s renowned products across the UK through our established reseller network, but our innovative business intelligence solutions will now also be available to Uniwell’s customers worldwide.

The successful visit not only saw us develop an exciting ongoing strategic plan, but also firmly cemented the relationship between our companies: partners who share both our business vision and our taste in sushi – what more could you ask for?

Integrated EPoS: PXtech’s innovative solutions catch the media’s eye

A couple of our customers cropped up in the retail tech press this month with some insightful articles on how our integrated EPoS systems have helped prevent theft, create growth and provide both big and small multi-location retailers with an all-seeing eye on their businesses.

First up was Retail Systems with an interesting piece on loss prevention, covering – amongst other things - the latest innovations in identifying and eliminating fraudulent behaviour, through the use CCTV-linked solutions. Noted for providing EPoS solutions to the smaller retailer (as well as much larger operations), PXtech’s PXportal business intelligence platform, integrated with a CCTV surveillance system was endorsed by customer, SubStores, who highlighted the customised alert feature as a benefit in keeping an eye on crime.

Dave Beecroft, SubStores Operations Manager, said: “The alerts send a trigger to us to be able to monitor footage of a particular incident with the accompanying receipt. Most of the time they are legitimate errors, but a few months ago we had someone who would take the money from the customer and then void transactions, pocketing the cash, so this integrated technology helps us to identify criminal behaviour and reduce losses.”

Expanding café chain Pistachios in the Park also extolled the virtues of an integrated EPoS approach in managing business growth, in a Retail Technology case study.

Using the web-based business intelligence tool, PXportal, which sits on top of the existing EPoS system, café owner Aysin Djemil uses real time data to implement a company-wide sales drive, manage their brand and respond to local customer needs. Remote access to information on each of his 10 park-based locations means he can spot opportunities and as well as anomalies and act on them immediately for the benefit of the business.

Fighting leakage, enabling expansion and providing real-time data to be responsive to customers – is your EPoS system working hard enough for you?

PXtech Makes National Retail Awards Shortlist

It’s been a busy time at PXtech – with lots of exciting product news and new business agreements going back and forth. And in amongst all the excitement we were rather pleased to hear that it’s not just we at PXtech who think the work we’re doing is top notch.

In fact, the panel of the Retail Systems Awards think we’re doing so well that we’ve recently been nominated for the Online Technology Vendor of the Year Award! With this fast-changing industry moving at such a rapid pace, it’s very pleasing that we have fought off some stiff competition to make the shortlist.

This is of course down to all of the outstanding work that the PXtech team has put in over the past year (and more) and recognises the market-leading solutions and sector-specific expertise we deliver to our customers right across the world.

The Retail Systems Awards are now in their seventh year, and are fast becoming the industry’s ‘must have’ award. The awards look to recognise excellence and innovation in the field of information technology within the UK retail sector, and with the presentation ceremony taking place on 24th October 2012, we hope we’ll soon have another trophy to add to our already pretty impressive collection!
